Andrew Keech - Music from the Movies, UK, November 2005

Canadian label Disques Cinemusique have established a deserved reputation as a champion of Georges Delerue's music. In recent releases they have augmented the available body of work by the composer through brilliant new recordings of scores that are not available in any sort of quality. This collection is the label's fifth new recording and like the previous albums - such as Interlude/Rapture and 'The Unpublished Film Music of Georges Delerue, Volumes 1 and 2 - the musical arrangements have been expertly done by Robert Lafond. However, the previous re-recordings relied on Robert Lafond's expert manipulation of sampled instruments, but for this album five instrumentalists and soprano soloist support his keyboard talents. This combination gives a beautiful sound that adds a rich texture to the delicious melodies that Georges Delerue wrote for the five chosen films, each borne out of a collaboration with English director and producer Jack Clayton. This album is full of music to savour. Georges Delerue's scores are always melodic, always captivating and always enjoyable. His work with Jack Clayton seems to be extra special, possibly spurred on by their friendship.
